Today is World AIDS Day
AIDS hits Home for me. I have an Uncle pass away from HIV/AIDS. When i was very young perhaps 7 or 8 years old i remember watching my Uncle get sicker and sicker never understanding why. My uncle was a military man and was very strong. AIDS literally sucked the life from him. It sapped his strength, it sapped the color out of his face and eventually the life from his eyes. I remember older members of my family coming to see him in his last days afraid to touch him for fear of contracting the disease only to watch Dad my Uncle's brother in law reach down and help him get out of a wheelchair. I have very vivid memories of my Uncle's warmth and his will to live and enjoy life even though he knew he was dying. So AIDS hits home for me. Many people live with HIV/AIDS as an everyday reality and thats because it is an everyday reality over 20 million have HIV/AIDS and on this day December 1st the world remembers. Make your safety an everyday priority. My uncle didn't suffer by himself my whole family suffered and mourned his loss. And i wont let his memory just be relevant on Dec. 1.
