My President Obama Thus Far Post....

Posted on 10:08 AM by Isaac | 7 comments

I tried to stay away from this because frankly its been beat into the ground, but it seems as though im going to have to.

I voted for President Obama because I felt he was the best person for the job. At that time i didnt really know much about Cynthia McKinney but i think she's somebody we need in the streets anyway.

But i think a lot of us made some assumptions about President Obama and i think it stems from our misunderstand what the President actually does and the particular situation President Obama had to deal with.

But here are some interesting Facts

1st a President's main goal is to secure that second term

2nd President Obama is a Democrat not a Black Panther

3rd Black People make up only 13 percent of the Electorate (that means people who are eligible to vote)

4th the key to Obama's Presidential Victory was primarily timing (imo) and his ability to capture a significant amount of voters from every demographic (done by an excellent fund raising strategy thematic characterization and the general jackassery of the Republican Party)

Given these facts especially the 2nd one it amazes me how some folk expected President Obama was going to be this black power culture warrior in the white house. Thats just doesn't make sense.

Now its something different altogether to suggest that he should due to white supremacy, cultural and economic suppression, and the legacies of slavery, Jim crow and state sponsored racism...but to expect it given the way he has presented himself is unrealistic.

However as a self defined "African-American" i do expect him to show him to be sensitive and aware of the needs of his people. And from time to time i have problems with things that he does. But once again Obama is a politician. The very nature of what a politician does is COMPROMISE. As a collective black community that is the last thing we can afford to do.

We cannot leave our communities up to Obama because quite frankly Obama does not work for us he works for America and is trying his hardest to make America work for everybody.

When it comes to the black community we cant afford to wait and we the people on the ground need to draw the line in the sand and start taking back what is ours. Simple as that.

and no i dont care about the Nobel Peace prize...cuz that does nothing for my community. ^_^

but for all you folks saying "what has he done" the NPP has more to do with the international community that what the person does in America...

Good read brother! Thoroughly enjoyed your points. We really need to focus more on what we each can contribute to being the change in our own communities.

Brother Isaac:

I hear what you are saying HOWEVER I must add some important facts to bring forth a more accurate picture of where we stand as a people.

I don't see Barack Obama as an individual. I see him as the head of a political machine. A machine that controls every single key institution where Black people live in our highest concentrations.

Thus instead of you suggesting that the Black community should not be looking to Barack Obama to specifically focus upon our communities needs - you need to, more accurately, point to the fact that Barack Obama presently stands today where the prevailing political activism has built up toward as its "final act" before ITS VERSION of "Black Advancement" was to take place.

The fact that you are noting what you are noting is a sign that the Black Establishment has been using us for THEIR goals and those of forces who reside outside of our communities.

In an e-mail debate with friends earlier today I noted that:

CHICAGO ILLINOIS AS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE.

Many of you don't realize these facts about how Chicago, at least on paper should be the promised land for all of the dreams of the Black Establishment Democrat. They try to make it so by having us to focus on how Obama was delivered to Black America from this incubator rather than noting how the rest of the Black folks in the area are faring.

In Chicago IL:

* The Mayor is a Democrat
* 49 of the 50 Aldermen are Democrats
* The School Superintendent is a Democrat
* The School Board is made up of all Democrats
* Every State Rep From Chicagoland is a Democrat
* Every State Senator From Chicagoland is a Democrat
* The State House is Controlled by the Democrats
* The State Senate is Controlled by the Democrats
* All US Reps from Chicagoland are Democrats
* Both US Senators from IL are Democrats
* The Governor Is A Democrat
* The LT Governor Is A Democrat
* The US House Is Controlled by the Democrats
* The US Senate Has A Filibuster Proof Democratic Majority

to top it all off - the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES comes from Chicago, is a Democrat and is a Black guy.

It is too easy to see how this is problematic when I bring these facts up in a debate against a Black person who is defensive for the benefit of the Democrats. THEY believe that I am arguing "See the Democrats are failing Black America - WHY DON'T YOU VOTE REPUBLICAN?"

In truth I am ONLY arguing "YOU told us that if Black America provided the Democratic Party with POWER that our interests would be finally addressed. THIS AGENDA HAS BEEN FULLY PLAYED OUT AND HAS NOT WORKED. Do not allow the Sold Out Black Establishment To Lie To You Again For The Benefit Of Their Own Agenda - which CLEARLY is not in the best interest of Black America".

This week the First Black President Of The United States dispatched the US Attorney General and the US Education Secretary to Chicago Illinois to address the problem with the MURDER of Black people.

Back in the day President Eisenhower was confronted with the sight of Black people being killed and intimidated. He sent the National Guard into an area so that Black people could be protected. During this time it was Klan forces that which threatened Black people. This deployment of national resources to protect Black folks made it into the history books for us to read.

President Obama's deployment of federal resources to save the lives of Black people today - will not be recorded in the history books.

I see what your saying Constructive. But like i said in my post its up to our communities to fix our communities. As you so effectively put the political machine is run by democrats and the promises that have been made, have failed and fallen through. We cant depend on politics because we cant afford to compromise.

and to keep it all the way funky it was a mistake to believe it ever would. Because the republican and democratic parties do not belong to the black community. And as long as we use their machinery they will be able to dictate the rules and standards.

The major Black political successes in the country have been a result of our collective action not due to acceptance into the dominant eurocentric culture. By throwing our lot in with the dems or the republicans we diminish our power due having the compete w/ all the other special interests that make up the 2 dominant political parties.

But thank you both for your comments..Come back and comment again soon!!

Brother Isaac:

I don't know your views in total so please allow me to make note of the need for an important construct within Black America which is presently missing.

Just as the American political system has the "Congressional Budget Office" to TRANSPARENTLY analyze certain proposals in a dispassionate manner, so too does the Black community need such a transparent entity.

After years of listening to Blacks of all level of consciousness I have come up with a list of Black Permanent Interests.

* Safe Streets
* Quality Schools
* Thriving Local Economies
* Healthy Lifestyles

Then I've added two more:

* Comprehensive solutions to implement the 4 items above most efficiently and to the largest number of people
* A Bias toward ORGANIC solutions that make use of our people intelligence, labor and financial resources rather than external resources paid for with our votes in the American politial system

We need a foundation that we all can work from. We don't need to agree upon methods, only destinations.

The transparent organization providing measurement so that the masses can decide to purge or continue a policy
