Know What Your Cosigning: Columbus Day, You're Doing It Wrong
and i mean that. I know its a day off from work and a chance to rest but really think about who Cristobal Columbus is and what he did. If you really wanna celebrate it right...go some place you've never been, declare it new and steal it from the people that were there first. Preferably by murder, centuries of cultural suppression/destruction, and or genocide.
Seriously,
Cristobal set sail west thinking he was going to hit India instead landed in the western hemisphere and in his typical European arrogance commenced a campaign of theft, rape and destruction of culture and people for profit. Yet this day is a federal holiday. This should tell you all you need to know about Amerikkka.
As per ReconsiderColumbusday.org By honoring Columbus w/ a federal holiday, R government continues 2 vehemently insult Native Americans & perpetuates a philosophy of racism & domination.
Consider the following
Winona LaDuke deplores "the biological, technological, and ecological invasion that began with Columbus' ill-fated voyage five hundred years ago."
The National Council of Churches declares the anniversary of Columbus "not a time for celebration" but for "reflection and repentance" in which whites must acknowledge a continuing history of "oppression, degradation, and genocide."
Historian Glenn Morris accuses Columbus of being "a murderer, a rapist, the architect of a policy of genocide that continues today."
"Could it be that the human calamity caused by the arrival of Columbus," African-American writer Ishmael Reed asks, "was a sort of dress rehearsal of what is to come as the ozone becomes more depleted, the earth warms, and the rain forests are destroyed?"
"All of us have been socialized to be racists and benefit from racism constantly," Christine Slater laments in the journal Multicultural Education. "The very locations on which our homes rest should rightfully belong to Indian nations."
Literary scholar Stephen Greenblatt alleges that Columbus "inaugurated the greatest experiment in political, economic, and cultural cannibalism in the history of the Western world."
So Join me in a large middle finger to Columbus day, to its supporters, and the federal government.

I wasn't aware this holiday still existed. I mean, I didn't know it was a federal holiday. I haven't even heard about it since I celebrated "groundhog day" in elementary school.
Kind of pissed I won't get mail today. Thanks for the insight.
The most ignorant thing about this is that Mr. President hasn't said anything on this fool's day to be stricken from the calendars and federal observances. Not once. Shine that NPP up real nice. *SMMFH* Good article, and mafuck Columbus Day.
