What a Weekend...
I said i wasnt gonna blog this weekends mess via a tweet hashtag
#ipledgeasabloggernottogivetonightsfoolishnessthetimeofdayinmyblog
but due to some thinking and some facts coming out i decided that they were worth exploring because there are some lessons here. I try to refrain from posting stuff thats just totally negative but there is light in this so i plan to show it in this post
lets start w/ Serena.
In this weekend's US Open match against Kim Clijsters. Serena went off and i mean went off on a line judge for calling a foot fault. Now in talking to a tennis playing friend of mine foot faults at that level of tennis play rarely if ever occur. Thus if its called the line judge better have the proof or it better be obvious. Apparently the called made was suspect thus Serena's expletive filled tirade and as a result she is fined and ends up costing her a point and losing the match. As a retired high school athlete myself i understand the passion you have for doing what you love and the feelings you have when you know a call is bullshit. However we cannot be ruled by our emotions and we must maintain our wits. Fact remains Serena cost her self match and possibly the US Open title because she couldn't keep her cool despite however righteous her indignation. When protesting a wrong we have to keep in mind the context of the situation. Its much better to win despite the adversity the lose because of our hubris.
however what bothers me more than anything is that Serena is being roughly handled as a result. This happens in sports. Calling it a meltdown rough. Pacers vs. Detroit that was a meltdown
and ummm
what about your fair skinned boy McEnroe. Dude is known for temper tantrum and its always talked about oh he just has such a passion for the game. *negro please face*
Kanye at the VMAs
*sigh*
I was appalled by his behavior but its typical Kanye antics unfortunately. for those of you dont know Kanye interrupted taylor swifts acceptance speech
totally out of line however not brand new. I.e
and
Here are some interesting facts. Notice the past VMAs that the person that wins the best video overall always wins their category. I.e Britney spears did it last year. Despite this Beyonce loses to Taylor swift despite beyonce clearly having the superior video which is evidenced by air play, references by a Jonas brother, Obama, and numerous youtube recreations. Personally i havent even seen a taylor swift video ever... so for her to win over Beyonce is incredibly suspect to me add to this that the VMAs are voted upon not by the viewers but by the VMA academy. Kanye has a valid point. However Kayne also has piss poor execution. Interrupting Taylor Swift in the middle of her speech was not the proper way to bring light to this very strange set of circumstances.
But on the other side of the coin
This is the VMAs and MTV loves publicity stunts. So it is also wholly possible this was staged seeing how Kanye is known for this behavior and Kanye was drinking Hennessey out the neck of the bottle but strangely didn't seem that drunk. The incident does allow Beyonce to execute the "classiest move" in vma history by allowing Taylor Swift to finish her acceptance speech. Which is sure to boost Beyonce which makes Jay-z and Beyonce Money. It sure to boost Kanye's controversy level which is free publicity which is gonna make Jay-z and Kanye Money. Taylor Swift gets a boost for being a victim and maybe some air play. And ultimately it gets people talking about VMAs which will get it more air time and build anticipation for next year.
Methinks it was either staged or a combination of the both. It possible Kanye got up recognizing the discrepancy i highlighted and spoke his mind. And the VMA's capitalized.
In anycase think critically. Television tends to tell lies to ya vision.
