World View

every so often i like tot sit down and examine how i view the world just to see how i have progressed from 1 point to another. so here's where i'm at as of the 13th of this month

As a American Citizen of African Descent i believe that i live in a country that historically and in the contemporary exploits and mistreats my people. Today it does so under the guise of a post racial society. The oppression my people face is no just limited to race or color but also in terms of gender and economics. This oppression is often covert and is strengthened by the apathy and disunity of my people. This apathy and disunity are the products of attempting to define oneself with the confines of American archetypes. This will lead to alienation from our true cultural heritage alienation from each other as a community and the endless frustration of trying to fit into a society that we were never intended to be apart of in the first place.

For the Diasporic African, America is not the idyllic melting pot. In truth it is a patch work quilt. In order to properly knit our patch in the American Quilt we must first understand our fabric as it is in our homeland Africa and not how it has presented to us by America as foreign and distant. It is up to those of us who possess such knowledge of our fabric to teach it. Go and tell the stories of our homeland and our heritage reclaim our languages and our true names and become a united community sensitive and aware of each other and our collective struggle.

While our progression in this country is substantial we must bear in mind that the laws of in this country that protect our rights are only 45 years old. There are many who are still among us who remember the bombings, the murders, and the beating that had to be endured. Those 45 years have not reversed the seemingly irreparable harm perpetrated on our people.

Let us continue to progress and know that our future lies in one another and not in our individual successes.
