Roland Burris is just a brother trying to get a job.
(CNN) -- Secretary of the Senate Nancy Erickson has rejected Roland Burris' appointment to the Senate, an aide to the secretary told CNN.
Roland Burris says Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's problems have nothing to do with him.
Erickson rejected Burris' appointment because his certificate of appointment was missing the signature of Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, the aide said Monday.
Rule 2 of the Standing Rules of the Senate states that the secretary of state must sign the certificate of election along with the governor.
White has declined to sign the certificate, siding with some Senate Democrats who say Burris should not be seated because of the cloud over Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who is accused of trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's Senate seat.
The embattled governor last week appointed Burris to fill the seat.
Burris said Monday that he's not bothered by Erickson's move because "the appointment's legal."

Well at first I was like "its hard being a black man in politics"
But that was at first. After i thought about it, if i was in Jesse White's position I wouldn't sign off on that either. The governer Blagojevich is under investigation for attempting to sell Obama's senate seat. Anyone he appoints is gonna be tainted by his mess and is not gonna be legitimate in the eyes of the people because folk are gonna be suspicious that he bought the seat as opposed to being picked on his merits as an electable official *which is in question because he's been defeated in about 3 consecutive elections*.
Burris has got hella opposition in from his own party it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think his appointment is legal and the motion he filed to get White to sign the appointment papers will most likely go through. After all Blagojevich may be embattled is still Governer of Illinois. However I also think this is Blagojevich trying to earn some brownie points (no pun intended lol) by putting a respected member of the african american community in the senate after getting caught "green handed".
