Haiti

As we all know or should know by now Haiti experienced an magnitude 7.0 earthquake with its epicenter outside Port Au Prince the capital of Haiti. The strongest quake in 200 years and not to mention after having to deal with hurricanes.

this is just one of the many pictures showing the devastation that this quake has caused. Mind you Haiti does not have the funds as a nation to invest in structures that are quake resistant so the damage is war zone level and with the vast deforestation in Haiti there isnt alot of greenery to hold the soil together. With all of that earthen upheaval that comes with an earthquake especially a big one landslides are a real possibility, tsunami's are a real possibility, the after shocks of this quake averaged about 5.0 and most likely still continue. What does this quate mean for the other Carribean countries?

At this time the casualty count is unknown...alot of things are unknown i know several folks still trying to get in contact with their family and with that said your help is heavily needed. I encourage you all to donate to Haiti's earthquake relief. However, be very careful about who you are giving your money to people will take advantage of this for a quick payday. so research who u are donating to.

I support www.yele.org you can text YELE to 501501 its a non governmental organization and it works exclusively in Haiti on a variety of issues. If you cant spare the money organize food drives clothing drives. Use that money you wasting on the club, alcohol, fast food any way and help make an impact.

Now there are some things that have drawn my ire in light of this situation.

tragedy is tragedy it is totally inappropriate to try and one up this disaster in Haiti as though suffering and transition picks favorites.

now is not the time to get on your "you shoulda been thinking about Haiti" moral high horse. fuck your high horse this isnt about you. Yes Haiti was the first nation in the "new to white folks world" to successful fight off oppression and our lack of self knowledge and personal selfishness keeps our brothers and sisters that are not in our immediate personal circle from mattering. All very true but thats not helping Haiti is it.

Why are all the "fun facts" CNN is showing about Haiti about poverty, illiteracy ignore the resiliency and strength of these people.

Your conversation is nice but your action is preferable. as my friend @McKswift on twitter said.

"As a Black man in North America I always honor Haiti for freeing itself from colonial control Aiding their Earthquake recovery is my DUTY"
