Although it might seem barbaric or callous however the earthquake occured Jan 12 and it is now Jan 23. After two weeks it is reasonable to begin to make a transition from search and rescue to concerns like food water medical supplies clothes gas and infrastructure so supplies can actually get there. I think this is a wise decision. Its really sad and unfortunate that so many will have to live with the fact that they will never really know what has become of their loved onces who may still be under the rubble or in many of the mass graves.

In terms of Aid...i still encourage giving items or give money directly to groups that are paying for gas for planes to get to Haiti through to the Dominican Republic such as my friends at The Happily Natural Day Blog Understand that this will be a long term effort and we really need to pay attention to what is happening with this aid.

It is of the utmost importance that we make sure Haiti does not turn into does not turn into a hot bed of Disaster Capitalisim via mercenaries like Iraq or via corporations like New Orleans be on the look out and start writing your politicians now.

In addition Haiti has much oil and there are US troops there and i dont believe in coincidences

Furthermore we also need to be working towards Cancelling Haiti's Debt the petition can be found here (click right here)

As for Hope for Haiti

it raised 58 million. Very Cool.

I wanted it to be about hope and the victories, triumphs and strength of the haitian people in the midst of such a disaster instead of the poverty porn (yes i said poverty porn)that the american news media has been pumping over the TV. And to an extent it was.

But all in all Hope for Haiti is a disappointment in the sense that it did not address the truth. Some of the speakers seemed to allude to it at least to me anyway. That the reason why this earthquake was so devastating is the largely because of the exploitations of the West as Randall Robinson explains in one of my previous blogs

This was my favorite part

Great post, as always, Dingane...

I'm still concerned about the search and rescue mission being ceased. With 5,000 or more ground troops from the US, I feel they could still continue that effort with less manpower. They certainly made sure they went door to door in Katrina.(Can I call it that?)
I was also disappointed by the concert, I mean telethon. The spirit was lacking, and in my experiences, as an artist, you really should perform material directly related to the cause. I was, however, glad to see Mary "The Queen" J. Blige. (Is it appropriate for me to be discussing my childhood crush?) I was extra pleased by Wyclef's performance. The brother is handling this very well.

yeah was that Madonna song about giving head *shrugs* anyways i was looking more towards the people who were actually on the ground thats what got me. But a telethon is a concert, its purpose like a concert is profit. the only difference is where its going hopefully anyway. Wyclef did very well as did mary. and honestly i think we all wanted to do some things with Mary J. blige lol
