Solution Saturday: Knowing OUR scholars
Okay this weeks solution is to recognize the importance of the knowledge given by those who share our perspective.
Often times when people drop quotations from intellectuals those quotes generally come from white men.
As an Afrikan this is problematic because those quotes are products of a concept that was developed in a world where they are not oppressed. As Afrikans our worldview is heavily effected by white supremacy so why would we place value in ideas and concepts based off their reality and not our own. It doesn't make sense. If an Afrikan were to invest themselves into those thoughts then they would invest their minds into Eurocentric thought which is antithetical to who that African is.
Which is why it is of utmost important for us to know who our scholars are and what their knowledge tells us.
Here are some People To Check out
Marcus Garvey
Nobel Drew Ali
Naim Akbar
Asa Hillard III
I'll leave you w/ this by Naim Akbar just to make your mind uncomfortable

i think we should all be open to truth no matter who or what the messenger is.
Anonymous,
Where is your blog?
Anon i could agree to that if we Afrikans had a knowledge of ourselves. Fact is many of us dont.. and our culture is suppressed in country so my contempt of eurocentrism causes me to reject most of what they say an interpret it though my own Afrikan Lens
Navine, the anonymous blog is anonymous. lol, j/k. i haven't made time to keep a blog but if/when it comes to fruition i will post a message with a link. chances are many people wouldn't want to read it because it would involve less weighty subject matter like artsy pictures of toenail clippings and streams of consciousness poems about penguins.
issac, i like "Anon", lol.
