Something to think about

Some observations

So i was thinking about the old cliche that if your not apart of the solution then your apart of our problem. Meaning apathy is just as bad as riding shotgun w/ a mossberg on a drive by.

so in the absence of quality internet at home i present the fruits of my boredom/furture non-profit.

1. Concept of Community.
Often times when discussing solutions i notice that when people talk about the black community they used the term "community". That term would denote unity. Unfortunately, from my experience unity occurs in small pockets, is often fragile, forged generally in times of crisis, and rarely lasts outside of said crisis. So with that being the reality, when it comes to the community it is our job first starts in rebuilding.

2. Who is "Our"
Formally that would be black middle class. The Fraternities and Sororities, Masons and OES, NAACP, Urban League, and everyone else who basically have had some measure of success but (hopefully) haven't gone so far that they have forgotten what it's like to struggle.

3. Why
We are the Only one's who can fix Our problems. Consider the following. Its 2009 and while we as african americans have made great strides individually, have a black/white president w/ a black first lady and family (yes its that significant). And yet african americans are dropping out of school at higher rates having children at higher rates getting AIDS at higher rates. So what does that show you? Within the black community there is a growing gap between Achieving and Not achieving that has got to be fixed

4. How
Education is great equalizer. But only if the schools are equal in terms of quality, if the resources to supplement the information being taught at the schools are available which would include time on the part of the parent to help with homework or money for a tutor, parent involvement, and the parent's ability to navigate the educational system and advocate for their child.

And here is where we stand in the gap so to speak to be bridge with which the youth can achieve academic success. less dropouts less pregnancies and less of idle youth for the gangs to grow their ranks.

specifics will come later..
